About this artwork
The work features a frontal figure—a hybrid between human and animal (a humanized leopard)—imbued with strong symbolic and expressive resonance. The face occupies virtually the entire picture plane, creating a direct and immediate impact on the viewer.
The formal treatment combines traits characteristic of Naïve art—simplification of forms, frontality, and a certain ingenuousness in representation—with a more conscious and sophisticated execution… in the handling of materials and color, thereby justifying its characterization as “refined Naïve.”

I stand between two worlds: that of man and that of the animal, that of the visible and the invisible. And in that intermediate place, I find my truth.

Julio Cesar Cepeda Duque is a painter, draftsman, printmaker, and sculptor, trained at the Samuel Feijóo Professional Art School in Cuba, with extensive experience in the art community. His work is distinguished by techniques such as monochrome and rough-textured drawing and printmaking, evoking the erosion of time, while exploring multiple materials and disciplines as each concept requires. He addresses themes such as human relationships, recycling, and the link between science and nature.
