About this artwork
They are based on photos I took on my travels around the world, transformed and placed in new contexts. Each SEAngle is unique: a collage of photos, foam boards, fabric, paper cutting, found objects, mixed media and acrylic.
In the SEAmaps, the love of the sea, the collecting of old maps and nautical maps, the fascination for ships, containers and ports are combined with the love of travel and the joy of "losing yourself" - in foreign areas, bygone… times, somewhere between cities , countries, islands and oceans.
At first glance, the SEAmaps look like maps, with strange, sometimes familiar shapes of cities, countries and continents, but in impossible combinations. Layer by layer these are placed on top of each other, a lot happens on the edges, the coasts, but just as much - like in the sea itself - takes place beneath the surface.
