About this artwork
In my work “Hands On” I explore the interplay between mind and body – and the moment when the connection between the two becomes unbalanced.
Here, the hands symbolize expression, action, and self-awareness. In times of psychosomatic tension, they sometimes feel to me as if remotely controlled—as if the body is reacting while the mind remains still. I translate this experience into color and movement: the hands are alive but fragmented, surrounded… by vibrant traces of color that oscillate between control and letting go.
The luminous layers of acrylic, oil pastel, and spray paint create an energy that oscillates between tension and release. For me, "Hands On" symbolizes the fragile connection between the inner and outer worlds—the struggle for balance when body and mind learn to communicate with each other again.
Katharina Goniwiecha is a self-taught artist from Germany who works in the interplay of abstraction and figuration. Using acrylic, oil pastel, and graphic elements, she creates atmospheric pictorial spaces that unfold layer upon layer with depth, movement, and resonance.
A central theme of her work is the connection between inner processes and visible surfaces: healing, self-awareness, and the fragile balance between vulnerability and strength. Feminine energy, emotional intensity, and quiet contemplation are recurring motifs that shape her imagery.
Her art invites viewers to pause and reflect their own feelings in the multifaceted atmospheres. This creates works that not only invite contemplation, but also experience—as a bridge between inner and outer, intimacy and universal experience.
