Loosely based on the landscape looking east from my home across the Salish Sea that separates Vancouver Island from the BC mainland, this piece, uses layers of acrylic, collage, and pencil, to blend impressionism with semi-abstract forms. I wanted to capture the quiet tension between land and sky, where light dances softly over shifting textures. It brings a serene yet dynamic energy, inviting calm reflection and a sense of connection to nature’s… quiet power.
Kathi Rudko is a painter who draws on decades of teaching, art history studies, and workshops with renowned Canadian and American artists, working in watercolour, acrylic, oil, mixed media, encaustic, and collage. Her work embodies contemporary impressionism, characterized by loose brushwork in landscapes, edgy figurative pieces, and a keen attention to movement and texture. She explores the preservation of natural beauty, especially of Vancouver Island, evoking deep reverence, wonder, and the fleeting emotional resonance found in moments of quiet observation.
