About this artwork
The work "Calcutta Beach" expresses ecological and social criticism of the way of life of our mass consumer society, primarily in the industrialized countries of the global north. This creates endless hills of plastic waste, which place an enormous burden on the environment, especially in the socially disadvantaged countries of the Third World. The title "Calcutta Beach" thus seems sarcastic and even grotesque. A supposed southern paradise has turned…
into an ecological and social hell.
