About this artwork
My focus centered entirely on the subject’s face and downward gaze, as I tried to catch a fleeting, deeply human duality: a quiet shyness paired with an undercurrent of unspoken excitement. I relied heavily on an intuitive process of building up numerous layers, combining thick textures with translucent, watery acrylics. For me, it was deeply important to build a rough, heavy texture that resembles scars. I wanted to catch the profound truth that…
those scars formed Mona, and yet, through all her scars, she is beautiful. This tactile landscape contrasts against a palette of warm golden, peach, and autumnal tones that breathe through the skin, giving the figure a luminous, soulful quality. The final piece stands as a testament to resilience, mirroring the complex emotional layers held within her expression.

Hi, my name is Kristina "Kiki" Spring (née Kucerova). Born in former Czechoslovakia, I studied literature and fine arts at Comenius University in Bratislava before moving to the United States and eventually settling in Switzerland. Living between cultures has profoundly shaped my perspective, inspiring an ongoing exploration of identity, memory, and emotional landscapes.
Today, my studio practice is dedicated to expressive abstract landscapes and female portraits. Grounded in a signature warm golden palette inspired by autumnal light, each piece invites the viewer on an imaginary and emotional journey.
Working from my studio in Zug, Switzerland, I build each canvas through up to 20 translucent glazes, tactile impasto textures, and floating geometric symbols. My paintings offer a sanctuary for curiosity, inviting viewers to trace their own paths through the layers.
