About this artwork
Welcome to my studio, where ancient legends and modern materials meet. I am Maria Li Safi (Li-skazka), and this is my original mixed media painting, "Anglerfish". I invite you to gaze into the deep abyss through my narrative lens.
For me, creating is like unlocking a story hidden within the materials. To capture the dynamic, slightly unsettling spirit of this deep-sea creature, I deviated from my usual methods. In a bold experiment of Symbolic Ethno-Surrealism… and fantastic realism, I allowed the inks to clash and merge directly on the canvas, guiding the chaos into form. This is my vision of a primal force.
The textured surface, rendered with meticulous fine detail lining and mixed media, breathes with life. The Anglerfish's face, with its menacing, ribbed mouth, is a dance of dark and deep oil on canvas pigments. Its massive body, a rich tapestry of shimmering gold and copper finishes, contrasts with the dark, bubbly ocean current that swirls around it.
