About this artwork
The Games of the Wise, which I painted starting from an unpublished sketch never painted by Giorgio de Chirico, was on the back of another drawing, with the same title, that the Master of Metaphysics drew in 1916 in Ferrara, while he was a guest at the Villa del Seminario; De Chirico painted the other version of the drawing, while the second one on the back of the sheet was particularly interesting to me for the elements reported in this composition;… in fact, the anatomical drawings belonged to the arsenal of objects that were found inside the Villa del Seminario (which had been used as a sort of convalescent home for war traumas) while in the painting inside the box, De Chirico had reproduced the pediatric clinic for nervous diseases, which the young painter saw from the windows of his room and which had particularly inspired him. The mannequin in the background is the only pseudo-human figure present in the drawing.
Luciano Vannoni is a painter and graduate of the Liceo Artistico Mengaroni, with a multifaceted background in drawing, ceramics, sculpture, and painting, and an expert in oil painting. He employs a meticulous and refined technique, inspired by the metaphysical style of De Chirico, recreating previously unseen sketches with almost scribe-like precision and a profound chromatic alchemy. His works evoke a different, highly introspective reality, inviting the viewer to rediscover the mystery and wonder hidden within the ordinary.
