About this artwork
"The Great Metaphysician" is a painting that I created starting from an unpublished sketch by De Chirico, which the Master of Metaphysics never painted; this drawing, like others, was drawn between 1916 and 1917, in Ferrara, during De Chirico's stay between the Villa del Seminario and some houses in the centre of Ferrara and is part of a total of 30 drawings of which only six were painted by the Master; during this "Ferrara" period De Chirico painted… other versions with the same title, but this was the first and with elements that were not present in his other drawings (e.g. the two buildings and the long chimney in the background).
Luciano Vannoni is a painter and graduate of the Liceo Artistico Mengaroni, with a multifaceted background in drawing, ceramics, sculpture, and painting, and an expert in oil painting. He employs a meticulous and refined technique, inspired by the metaphysical style of De Chirico, recreating previously unseen sketches with almost scribe-like precision and a profound chromatic alchemy. His works evoke a different, highly introspective reality, inviting the viewer to rediscover the mystery and wonder hidden within the ordinary.
