About this artwork
"The Great Metaphysician" is a painting that I created starting from an unpublished sketch by De Chirico, which the Master of Metaphysics never painted; this drawing, like others, was drawn between 1916 and 1917, in Ferrara, during De Chirico's stay between the Villa del Seminario and some houses in the centre of Ferrara and is part of a total of 30 drawings of which only six were painted by the Master; during this "Ferrara" period De Chirico painted…
other versions with the same title, but this was the first and with elements that were not present in his other drawings (e.g. the two buildings and the long chimney in the background).
