About this artwork
This piece is directly inspired by the world of the forest, or rather the jungle. When you have to clear a passage between vines and trunks. It would symbolize a path of life, like a quest with light at the very end.
The light (lighting or sun) casts the shadows of this sculpture on the ground or the surrounding walls, which further reinforces its presence.
Made of solid oak, this piece was sculpted, then calcined and inked.
It is presented on… a simple steel base 25 x 25 cm and 2 cm thick.
It can be removed from its base to be hung on a wall.
This sculpture comes from the artist's personal collection.

« Trying to reach the essential, in all its simplicity, humility and authenticity. Attempt to touch my own authenticity. »
Whether painting, sculpting or writing, Marc Laffolay strives for a direct, meditative and impulsive gesture.
He strives to banish any intervention of the mind, to privilege the spontaneous act, sincerity, without conscious reference to fashions and other trends.
For him, these are the conditions of authenticity.
