About this artwork
This very tactile solid cedar basin sculpture offers a strong contrast of textures and colors.
The exterior surface, black and heavily textured, has a very telluric appearance. Fire has been there. Fire and the traces of time and the elements have shaped this surface. The touch is raw but pleasant, soft, and generous.
The interior is made of blond wood, silky to the touch and to the eye. A few traces remain: this is the life of the wood, its… personality, the opposite of those overly perfect, overly smooth, sanitized surfaces with which we have become all too familiar.
The cedar tree is an emblem of grandeur, nobility, strength, durability, and incorruptibility... It is said to ward off negative energies, promote healing, and enhance spiritual awareness!
This piece from the LES OBLATIVES series presents another facet of my work.
