About this artwork
For me, this sculpture evokes momentum, movement, dance, the strength of fragility.
It is a very light piece.
It is crossed by a multitude of openings, like windows, which depending on the lighting, project a lace of light onto the walls or onto the floor.
The texture of this sculpture reflects the passing of time, its wear and the traces it leaves in the material.
This texture is both raw and soft to the touch, sensual.
The two elements that… make up this sculpture were carved from two pieces of solid ash. Once carved, TWO SISTERS was burned then inked and waxed, which gives it this deep and generous black hue.
Presented on a black steel base, this piece can be placed on the floor or on a piece of furniture.

« Trying to reach the essential, in all its simplicity, humility and authenticity. Attempt to touch my own authenticity. »
Whether painting, sculpting or writing, Marc Laffolay strives for a direct, meditative and impulsive gesture.
He strives to banish any intervention of the mind, to privilege the spontaneous act, sincerity, without conscious reference to fashions and other trends.
For him, these are the conditions of authenticity.
