About this artwork
In "Shadow Light 01" from the "Silent Places" series, I'm interested in the moment when a seemingly harmless structure topples over and becomes menacing. At night, illuminated only by artificial light, this brick tower stands isolated in deep black. The harsh light erodes the mortar joints, the stones glow brightly, while everything behind them disappears into darkness.
The perspective from below exaggerates the block, making it almost monumental… and heavy. It appears as a foreign object, a silent sentinel that conceals more than it reveals. The sharp contrasts, the complete absence of surroundings, allow for no vanishing point – only this massive form against a black sky. In this heightened effect, I attempt to capture the underlying threat that can lurk even in seemingly familiar structures.
