About this artwork
I depict the silent drama of dried-up riverbeds. "Tunnel" is part of the "World of Water" series and focuses our gaze on an artificial channel that speaks of water without being able to show it. Leaves and dust have taken over the bottom; the mouth resembles a stony mouth, voiceless. We expect the rushing sound, but it never comes—enigmatically. Thus, absence becomes the true protagonist: a memory of flow, a promise of return. At the end of the tunnel,…

I seek the poetic moment between stillness and possibility, in which the landscape carries only the sound of water within itself. At the same time, the work alludes to the consequences of climate change, which can lead to low water levels or limited water availability.

Marcel van Beek works with photography, painting, and graphic design and holds a degree with honors from Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences. His technique combines pictorialist influences with a romantic-symbolist visual language. His photographs embody contemporary fine art photography and conceptual photography, often featuring monochrome recolored works that have received numerous international awards.
He creates a poetic visual language interested in forms and structures, combining this with a modern, conceptual approach that claims social relevance.
