This bird's-eye view of the city of Padua was constructed by the artist to simultaneously observe several of the city's monuments: the Palazzo della Ragione (a medieval courthouse) with its grandiose roof shaped like an upturned ship's hull, the Church of Sant'Antonio, the Clock Tower, and the Church of Santa Giustina. In the foreground, the Church of San Nicolò with its bell tower can be seen from above. The expanse of the city's rooftops extends…
everywhere, creating the illusion of flying over the city. The painting technique draws on Impressionist influences and is executed in rapid succession, using soft colors to accentuate the composition's luminosity.
