In this work, I offer an abstract and sensory vision of Fort-de-France, a city both vibrant and complex. Through large blocks of color—a dominant incandescent red, a dense and structuring blue, a vivid yellow band—I evoke the overwhelming heat, the marked contrasts, and the telluric force of the place.
The intricately constructed composition suggests a stylized horizon line, where land, sea, and sky intertwine in a silent tension. The red, almost… mineral, embodies the intensity of the Caribbean light, while the blue seems to carve out a calmer, deeper inner space. The yellow line acts as a point of balance, a circulation of energy.
This painting is less a representation than a condensed perception—an emotional landscape that captures the vibrant essence of Fort-de-France. I am pursuing a quest: to create a dialogue between the memory of the place and the power of the forms, in a refined and resolutely contemporary language.
Maryse Pique is a self-taught painter, shaped by her daily dialogue with materials and color. Following a free abstraction, her style is nourished by the superposition of layers and colorful textures in a spontaneous symphony of gestures and hues. Through her rhythmic works, vibrant with emotion, she shares a range of inner sensations, from tensions to renewals, and an invitation to reflection and freedom.
