About this artwork
The Brooklyn Bridge is one of New York's most famous landmarks. However, I was less interested in the postcard image than in the interplay of its monumental architecture with the vastness of the sky.
The central perspective focuses the view on the bridge's striking towers and beyond to the Brooklyn skyline. The dramatic sky lends the scene an almost painterly quality.
The black and white photography emphasizes the construction of steel, wood… and rivets, while the few people on the bridge become silent measures of its dimensions.
