About this artwork
A painting by the artist of an authentically preserved pub, hidden away off the beaten track in the back streets of Ancoats, Manchester amidst old warehouses now converted to expensive apartments. The artist felt the area's atmosphere was full of ghosts and forgotten stories and this work therefore has a vaguely surreal, unworldly atmosphere, as though part of an undisclosed narrative, with the sky suggesting some emotionally turbullent subtext.…
It is painted in acrylic paint with some ink highlights on compressed wooden fibreboard and varnished. It is mounted in a blue wooden frame specifically chosen and painted by the artist in order to accentuate the colours within the work and in that respect the frame can be considered as part of the art work as a complete item ready to hang.

Michael Gutteridge is a British painter whose works have been extensively exhibited throughout the United Kingdom. His cityscapes combine diverse influences and involve spontaneous forms of distortion expressed via color, proportion, perspective, and an incongruous juxtaposition of styles. Often, Gutteridge endeavors to convey existentially disorientating feelings as well as other types of emotion and general sensual vibrancy. He creates using acrylics and ink on wood.
