About this artwork
The title of this series, Unbroken, has a double meaning. On the one hand, it refers to the wild, free nature of the Brumbies – wild horses that have never known a rider. On the other hand, it represents the eternal, unbroken cycle of life.
The inspiration for this motif came during a trip through the Australian bush. I remember a herd of free-roaming brumbies and the harrowing words of our driver, who mentioned that they were soon to be shot because… there were too many of them. This feeling of heartbreak and powerlessness stayed with me, but it also led to a realization: their spirit is never truly lost. They live on in their offspring, just as their ancestors lived on in them. And now they live on in my art.
Michaela Stocker is passionate about painting horses in pastels and oils. Her techniques are experimental, the focus is on the emotional bond between humans and animals. Her works of art radiate a deep connection and an almost tangible admiration for nature.
