About this artwork
In 2025, Singapore hosted an immersive tribute to Jean Michel Basquiat. Mihov was selected to create site-specific murals in dialogue with Basquiat’s legacy. The One Basq series started as a trio of re-imagined banknotes-style large chalk murals, blending street art, pop culture, and financial symbolism. The murals were executed entirely in chalk across a blackboard wall at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
After the exhibition of the murals at… MBS, Mihov created 3 mini murals, using the same chalk and street style to mimic the large originals. The compositions adopt the structure of a banknote and were also exhibited in 2025 the OCBC Center in Raffles Place, Singapore.
Mihov is a painter, digital artist, and visual artist whose background bridges the worlds of global finance and post-communist Bulgarian art, enriched by training in both Orthodox iconography and contemporary portraiture. His Cerebral Figurative Expressionism fuses oil, watercolor, collage, and precious metals into layered canvases that intertwine capitalist symbols with spiritual iconography, resulting in visually striking, analytical works. Mihov’s art invites viewers to reflect deeply on personal values within a capitalist culture, provoking both introspection and emotional engagement.
