In this satirical reimagining of Botticelli’s Renaissance masterpiece, Mihov dissects the modern-day cult of beauty and desire through the lens of consumerism. Venus, emerging from her shell, is no longer untouched by divinity but entwined with contemporary symbols of luxury and status. A butler offers champagne, while a figure ushers the goddess forward, handbag in hand. The sea is littered with debris and the background is flooded with confetti,…
the wreckage left by our collective obsession with consumption, as well as the efforts to distract from it all, with shiny new toys. The border—woven in golden chains and logos—frames the scene as though commodified itself. Mihov transforms a myth of purity into a mirror of modern culture, asking us: What do we glorify today? Beauty, spirit, or branding? Seductive and ironic, the work embodies the artist’s ongoing commentary on consumerism, where gods have been replaced by logos, and desire is packaged, marketed, sold.
