About this artwork
'Dangerous' marks Mihov’s first hyperrealistic portrait — a provocative fusion of anonymity, pop culture, and technical precision. Created in 2019 during his studio’s relocation to Singapore, the work challenges local conventions of portraiture, which often centre on family, authority, or self. Instead, Mihov presents an unnamed muse in a rabbit mask, chain in hand, spiked cuffs — a nod to Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous” and the pop iconography of the… era - as a way of challenging the local art scene in Singapore. By stripping away identity, yet amplifying persona, Mihov reframes what a portrait can be in the Asian art context. The work faced multiple rejections by galleries in Singapore due to its perceived nature and local norms, but eventually earning a feature in Forbes magazine as a milestone in the artist’s career and a bold statement in contemporary Asian portraiture.

Mihov is a painter, digital artist, and visual artist whose background bridges the worlds of global finance and post-communist Bulgarian art, enriched by training in both Orthodox iconography and contemporary portraiture. His Cerebral Figurative Expressionism fuses oil, watercolor, collage, and precious metals into layered canvases that intertwine capitalist symbols with spiritual iconography, resulting in visually striking, analytical works. Mihov’s art invites viewers to reflect deeply on personal values within a capitalist culture, provoking both introspection and emotional engagement.
