About this artwork
The Selye Symphonies
Is a series of 13 originals, using watercolours, ink, 24k gold leaf on Arches hot pressed cotton.
The series was named after Dr Hans Selye, who was the first to discover the effects of psychological pressure on the physical state of being. The 13 originals are numbered and express different psychological states, without necessarily clarifying each. The intent is to ask YOU, the viewer, to feel each state and decode for self.…
Each piece depicts formal dress with no face, but just an aura, a mood, a symphony, one that unites the artist’s world at the time. The series was painted while Mihov lived at the Ritz and the JW in Kuala Lumpur, inspiring the formal tux and gowns depicted.
Majority of the pieces now sit within notable private collection such as those of The Bayes Business School, Bolton University, eShareLife Foundation, the permanent collection of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in London and private collections across Europe.

Mihov is a painter, digital artist, and visual artist whose background bridges the worlds of global finance and post-communist Bulgarian art, enriched by training in both Orthodox iconography and contemporary portraiture. His Cerebral Figurative Expressionism fuses oil, watercolor, collage, and precious metals into layered canvases that intertwine capitalist symbols with spiritual iconography, resulting in visually striking, analytical works. Mihov’s art invites viewers to reflect deeply on personal values within a capitalist culture, provoking both introspection and emotional engagement.
