About this artwork
I painted this scene after stopping outside a boutique window. It is really three paintings in one. First there is the mannequin in the window with store fixtures, lights and a salesman. Second we have the woman outside, wearing the same dress as the mannequin. Ane third, the reflections of cars on the street, a tree and the building opposite. We have the living and the artificial mirroring one another. The red letters and the gleam of glass turn…
the moment into something cinematic. For me, this painting is about how we see ourselves in the world’s reflections, and how easily the boundary between real and imagined can blur.
