About this artwork
These works, in which lines flow freely as if dancing, are the result of my own techniques and the sense of my hands that have been accumulated over a long period of time. The movement of lines repeated at a fast pace and the way the whole is composed with minimal lines are the result of accumulated skills and natural expression.
That may seem abstract to the viewer. But for me, this abstraction is not a form that was intentionally created, but rather… an expression that naturally flowed from my body like a habit.
Also, I tried to add depth to the work by making good use of the contrast of colors.
Yoosho Nam is a painter renowned for his mastery of croquis, using ink and Korean hanji paper to build on his Western painting background. He fuses Eastern traditional materials with gestural, expressive abstraction, employing spontaneous lines and rhythmic marks to capture raw energy and movement. His works radiate an instinctive immediacy, enveloping viewers in a dynamic harmony of culture, time, and motion.
