About this artwork
Dionysus was the god of what happens when the mask slips — when laughter breaks through ceremony, when the wild pushes through the polished.
The panther knows this. That is why he stays.
Those yellow eyes don't ask permission. They simply see — through pretense, through everything we carefully construct to appear composed. And somehow, that gaze feels like relief.
I painted this moment: the sculptural stillness… of a god who has seen everything, and the living fire of a creature who has forgotten nothing. Between them — something neither fully tame nor fully wild. Something true.
This is part of my Dream in Stone series, where marble becomes memory and animals carry what humans have learned to hide.
He doesn't ask you to choose between discipline and freedom.
He already knows you contain both.
