About this artwork
I am never sure exactly why I arrive at the ideas for my paintings. Sometimes it becomes apparent soon after I have finished the painting, sometimes it takes a while for any meaning to emerge. Having to write what my paintings are about forces me to think more seriously why I chose to do them. I think with this one it arose from working with this particular model who had an eating disorder. I am curious to try to understand why she began to suffer…
from this debilitating condition. My hunch is that she is afraid - of what I don't know. Perhaps life itself.
