I have always been fascinated by those brief moments when thinking disappears and instinct takes over. In this painting, I wanted to capture exactly that feeling. A young woman dives forward without hesitation, fully surrendering to the water, the movement, and the moment itself.
Rather than focusing on details, I chose to paint the sensation: the cool turquoise water, the splash of light, the freedom of simply being.… The loose brushwork allows the image to breathe, leaving space for the viewer to experience the scene rather than merely observe it.
For me, Dive Into Tranquility is about trust. Trusting the water. Trusting the moment.
Trusting life enough to dive in and let yourself be carried, even if only for a few seconds.
Sometimes peace is not found in standing still, but in the courage to let go.

Nicole Schellekens, working under the name Nicole S. Pousset, (after my grandfather) is a Belgian painter with a background in graphic design, now based in Antwerp.
She paints with expressive, loose brushwork, blending figuration and suggestion to capture people in motion, illuminated by delicate contrasts of light and shadow.
Embracing simplicity and emotional depth, her style reflects influences from Rembrandt to Rubens while inviting viewers to pause and reflect. Her art radiates optimism, tenderness, and the quiet beauty of human connection, offering a gentle counterbalance to the heaviness of modern life.
