About this artwork
For over 15 years, I've been photographing the lives of polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, on Hudson Bay. Only a few times have I been fortunate enough to see, let alone photograph, a female polar bear with triplets. Here, on this brilliant evening in the beautiful warm sunshine, this polar bear family suddenly stood before me. What a gift!
In February/March each year, the mothers emerge from their winter hibernation in the snow or earth… burrows where they gave birth. Shortly thereafter, they migrate across many kilometers of flat, icy tundra to the shores of Hudson Bay to hunt seals.
