About this artwork
In this work I sought to capture the essence of night, when silence becomes a canvas for our most intimate thoughts. Through acrylic, collage and pigments, I explored the limits of abstraction, expressionism and geometry. Minimalist simplicity invites reflection, providing space to escape. It is a dialogue between light and darkness; a visual murmur that will resonate in the living space, inviting contemplation and inner tranquility.
This painting… on high quality Arches paper refers to the music of Miles Davis. The music of "'Round Midnight" expresses great softness and at the same time is very expressive. These are the two elements that I tried to bring into dialogue with this composition on paper. I think this is the case even in the way I paint this work. My movements are gentle, sometimes I barely touch the paper (see the video of this process).

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
