About this artwork
This painting, "Summer in Naples," presents the fragmented memory of a Mediterranean summer. I wanted to pay homage to the intense colors of this extraordinary city. The dominant red that runs through several sections of the canvas creates a feeling of immersion in the light and warmth that define southern Italian summers.
My memory retains colorful impressions, striking contrasts, sensations rather than precise details. I tried to visually translate… this way in which an intense summer crystallizes in memory - in blocks of pure colors, in stark contrasts between hot and cold, between urban and natural, between intensity and softness.
This geometric composition falls within the field of contemporary art, evoking the timeless essence of the Neapolitan Mediterranean summer in a minimalist manner.

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
