About this artwork
This abstract painting plays on the tension between the geometric and the gestural. Its title is inspired by "Unlimited" (1974), an Art Blakey album marked by a raw percussive energy and a rhythmic architecture that is both rigorous and explosive.
The orange swathe is the heart of the composition—it overflows, it refuses to be contained. It perfectly reflects Blakey's presence behind her drum kit: massive, central, transcending the framework of… accompaniment to become the lead voice itself. The jagged edges of the orange are her cymbals, stretching out beyond the beat.
The thin black line that crosses the composition without filling it is the structure of the theme, holding everything together without stifling improvisation. It defines a space without confining it. Unlimited in the truest sense.

« My research takes the direction of "parasitic" minimalism. I claim the expression of a rigorous geometric structure endangered by the soft and hazardous trace of the brush. »
Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
