About this artwork
This original oil painting on canvas is a contemporary figurative collage in grisaille—almost monochrome—mixing a surreal female portrait with nude figure studies and an older face that feels like memory or warning. I painted the figures with classical realism, then let the surface break into street-art textures: stencilled words, drips, scratches, and those electric blue marks cutting through the grey.
For me it’s about resilience. The messages… (“ahead”, “move on”, “don’t give up”) aren’t a slogan—they’re the inner voice you hear when you’re tired but still walking. I like that the composition reads like layers of time: desire, fear, tenderness, and strength sharing the same wall.
If this work stays with you, I hope it feels like a quiet push forward. —Pedro Sanz
Pedro Sanz is a Spanish self-taught oil painter with more than twenty-five years dedicated to his craft. Working through classical underpainting and meticulous layering, he uses transparency and tonal harmony to create images that feel both contemporary and timeless. His portraits are intimate and psychologically charged—less descriptions of a sitter than quiet encounters with inner life.
Stillness and contemplation run through his work. Time appears to slow; emotion is present but understated. Beneath the surface realism lies a subtle spiritual dimension—an invitation to look beyond appearance and enter a space of silence, attention, and presence. Each painting is created with archival materials and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
