About this artwork
This painting depicts an actual lifeboat launch on December 31st 1872. The lifeboat was physically pushed down the beach on its carriage, sometimes the launching would be easy and other times difficult and dangerous.
Details of the launch which did successfully rescue the crew of a Guernsey sailing ship are supplied with the painting.
