About this artwork
For this piece I channeled intense feelings of connection and intimacy amidst turmoil. Originally created to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but set against the aftermath of covid, this work shifts the focus to the grounding power of love as a defiant act of hope. Using rich acrylics and ink amongst the couple, I have depicted a tender embrace that symbolises both the strength and vulnerability required to remain open in challenging times.
The technique… combines a vibrant, almost chaotic blend of autumnal colors with semi-abstract forms to capture the profound complexity of human emotion. The presence of the roses and the hand-drawn heart card act as narrative anchors of affection in a strange time. This piece is intended to bring a bold and emotional presence, and to reflect a narrative of perseverance. It serves as a reminder that even when the world feels uncertain, the simple, resilient act of holding onto one another is our most potent source of light.
