About this artwork
Alluding to ' Last Tango in Paris', and inspired by the film score, this piece uses an energetic palette to subvert the film's tragic plot. Instead, I have channeled the raw emotion and shared chemistry of two tango dancers into a celebration of pure joy—capturing the final, blissful dance of the evening between two people in perfect synchronicity. It is a portrayal of synesthesia: the moment where the couple, emotionally "captured" by the music,…
have entered a hypnotic state where the sound becomes visible and flows through them in an almost spiritual takeover.
The interplay of colour with figurative detail reflects the "pulsating shimmer", and hypnotised state of the moment. The figures emerge from a flurry of shared memories and bonding body language, carried to a peak of bliss by the music’s rhythm. However, the grounding effect of the stencilled detail against expressive splatter, aims to immerse the viewer in the power of being truly present with these intensely joyful moments.
