About this artwork
This piece immediately followed a private commissioned painting of Westminster by the Thames, in which I explored the bustle and shapeshifting nature of London as viewed from across the river. Here I quickly adapted this experimental approach towards a more tightened version of the same process, thinking of how a musician hones ones particular style for the next project. I still allowed for the same degree of spontaneity, but the approach and application… felt like a more ordered way of presenting and juxtaposing these abstract and expressive moments.
Incorporating the same colour palette as the commission, instead of viewing it from a distance I wanted to go into the centre of London itself, this time focusing on the dynamic nature of crowds in harmony with the architecture. I wanted to produce a piece that captured and explored the bustle and variety of London, but in a way that captured the emotional experience of the city’s energy, history and people.
« I express the truest version of myself as I was, am, and will be in my work. »
