To describe the origin of Calm & Chaos would be to influence the onlooker’s perception.. They are perfectly capable of making up their own mind without guidance..
Each will arrive at their own interpretation, based on their memories, preferences and emotions.
Calm & Chaos is finished with acrylic paint on a curved resin form.. It freely turns on a scorched Yew cylindrical base. Scorching emphasises the natural texture and grain of the wood while… providing a neutral base.
The absence of sides and corners on a circular base allow the sculpture to be turned to any position while always facing forwards. Turning not only allows different aspects to duplicate the essential sensation of moving around the sculpture but can also capture a particular light and create shadows.
« Inspired by events of the natural world, I put all of myself into making sculptures which I hope strike a chord and evoke emotion in those who encounter them. »
Philip Hearsey is an experienced British sculptor who has exhibited his work throughout the UK. Rather than engaging in specific theories, he is driven by an instinctive urge to progress at his own pace and focus on making things. He turns observations and visualizations into 3-dimensional realities, harnessing his specialty in sandcasting to make sculptures that engage the quality of bronze as a noble material in its own right. Hearsey's pieces showcase smart simplicity, intriguing shapes and a tactile touch.
