About this artwork
Passion for colour is at the core of all my paintings. In this particular series I let myself go, giving myself the permission to create the painting more intuitively by trusting my colour palette selection intuitively. I have always had colour as my guide, when starting out with this particular series, my process out in the field remained the same. Firstly find a compelling idea within the landscape - whether large or small and then work with…
that idea back in the studio with my intial drawings, thoughts and words surrounding me on pin boards. I find that the words that immediately spring to mind when first encountering 'the idea' are incredibly helpful when in my studio as the real 'work' of formulating the composition and planning the piece starts. The energy of my selected colour palette has to be sustained. Enjoy getting lost in this colourful world of energy as much as I did painting the piece.

Philippa Headley is a painter with a rich background in art history and formal training, primarily working in oils but also using acrylics. She has a Diploma from The Royal Society of Arts, is a graduate of Christies Fine Art Education and holds a BA (Hons) degree in Art History. Her technique is deeply expressionistic, evolving between impressionistic, abstract, and representational, often driven by intuitive responses to landscape and colour. She explores the interplay of land, sea, and atmosphere, aiming for evocative compositions that invite viewers to experience a deeply personal, emotional connection with nature’s fleeting moments.
