About this artwork
My passion for hiking encourages me to venture off the beaten track. This Old Dry Stone Wall was high up on a ridge that dates back to the Roman conquest of Britain - called High Street. There is definitely a timeless quality to this area which allows the viewer to connect to the majesty of the landscape. I was paritcularly attracted to the weather worn nature of the wall and how it showed the ravages of time. So peaceful to sit and draw being…
surrounded by endless mountains and fells. I can sit endlessly both drawing and writing about the scene in front of me. When I return to the studio I am then able to recapture my feelings about the place. Rather than slavishly copy the details of the scene I prefer to interpret it with my own choices, selecting the colours and elements that I find artistically appealling.
