About this artwork
My passion for hiking encourages me to venture off the beaten track. This Picnic Spot was high up on a ridge that dates back to the Roman conquest of Britain - called High Street. There is definitely a timeless quality to this area which allows the viewer to connect to the majesty of the landscape. I was particularly attracted to the remoteness of this place. So peaceful to sit and draw being surrounded by endless mountains and fells. I can…
sit endlessly both drawing and writing about the scene in front of me. When I return to the studio I am then able to recapture my feelings about the place. Rather than slavishly copy the details of the scene I prefer to interpret it with my own choices, selecting the colours and elements that I find artistically appealling.
