About this artwork
Mountains offer an escape, not only for the frenetic busy lives surrounding us, but also from also from reality giving the hiker/walker an opportunity to connect with nature. This maybe through a challenging strenous scramble or a more sedate stroll through a valley bottom. Whatever the choice I find it allows to be free with my imagination and therefore inspires me both through colour choice and expressive feelings. On this particular walk It… was the hidden nature of the valley with the immensity of the mountains and hills rising up on all sides. With my artist's licence I made notes of how the colours appeared to me and the ideas that they generated. All excellent source material for when I returned to the studio to start the actual painting following a great deal of additional planning regarding the composition and interaction with the colour plan.
Philippa Headley is a painter with a rich background in art history and formal training, primarily working in oils but also using acrylics. Her technique is deeply expressionistic, evolving between impressionistic, abstract, and representational, often driven by intuitive responses to landscape and colour. She explores the interplay of land, sea, and atmosphere, aiming for evocative compositions that invite viewers to experience a deeply personal, emotional connection with nature’s fleeting moments.
