The work consists of a stack of welded, square meshes, separated from each other by one centimeter. The metal sheets form a parallelepiped measuring 75 x 85 cm, inclined at 7°.
The whole thing is made hyperstatic by means of iron rods attached to each panel. They are placed at the points of maximum tension in the structure.
This regular mesh allows for voids surrounded by interconnected bars.
The metal assembly constitutes a periodic tiling.… The panels are rigorously parallel and aligned with each other. Quite logically, a grid effect appears in depth, in the thickness of the piece.
The lighting of the mid-plane is an integral part of the work and is diffused in shades of blue and white.
With Welded Treillis, Philippe Fares has imagined a new building of an abstract nature, a distant echo of the final decor of Eight and a Half (1963) by Federico Fellini.
Philippe Fares is a contemporary French artist whose career has been profoundly shaped by the diversity of cultures and the interaction of art and science. His unique perspective, sharpened by a childhood spent in sub-Saharan Africa, is a testament to his early exposure to the art world, particularly to the influence of primitive arts. Returning to France at the age of 16, Philippe embarked on a path that allowed him to cultivate his understanding of Western arts while pursuing scientific studies.
Philippe Fares’ artworks are meticulously constructed using scientific methods and careful planning. His creations often feature a recurring tiling pattern, a meticulously balanced play with chance. This synthesis of meticulous design and the unpredictability of chance gives his works a dynamic and intriguing quality.
