About this artwork
This sculpture centres on a single bone: the jaw articulation of a merluza (European hake). Mounted on a fine rod and resting on a dark base, the form reveals a quiet clarity – evoking wings, movement, or the outline of a being not easily named.
It draws attention to the quiet intelligence embedded in natural forms – forms we rarely notice, yet which carry a strange familiarity when observed closely.
I often work with organic materials such as… fish bones, seeds or spines – not to transform them, but to reveal their essence: their geometry, their memory, their vibration. In this piece, the bone stands entirely on its own. Nothing is added or hidden. It radiates a presence that is both fragile and resolute, inviting a moment of stillness and attention.
Without stating it, the work also carries a silent gesture of respect for the being from which this form once came.
