This ongoing series draws on ancient female figurines—often called “Venuses”—whose original meanings remain unknown, yet have come to symbolize fertility, the earth, and our shared human origins. In 1981, seated female figures with intricate incised patterns were unearthed in northeastern Romania, created by the Cucuteni culture (4800–3000 B.C.). Some scholars interpret these markings as early forms of body adornment, possibly even tattoos, suggesting… identity, ritual, or belonging.
Reimagined here, the figure becomes both relic and warning. A statuette is invaded by soldiers creating a striking tension between beauty and violence. The work reflects on humanity ongoing wars for earth's territory and resources inviting viewers to consider fragility, responsibility, and the future we are shaping.
Pierre Leichner, with a background rooted in both medicine and fine art, works across sculpture, painting, installation, BioArt, and video, blending scientific inquiry with poetic sensibility. His technique embraces organic materials, layered abstraction, and time-based processes, often inviting natural phenomena as collaborators. Playfulness and surprise give way to deeper ecological and socio-political meaning through engaging participatory works. Pierre’s art evokes vulnerability and resilience while inspiring reflection and a profound sense of interconnection between humanity, nature, and community.
