About this artwork
The work was created in 2017 and reactivated in 2025 through new pictorial interventions that transform the canvas into a space of temporal stratification. The ash acts as a material and symbolic residue, while the industrial colors introduce a contemporary tension that reopens the image without recomposing it. The face emerges unstable, as a trace rather than a representation: a presence that resists erasure and rejects any definitive form. Painting… thus becomes an open process, in which time does not conclude the work but maintains it in a state of active vulnerability. It is not a portrait in the traditional sense, but a presence that resists erasure, an identity reduced to a trace, an imprint. Painting does not represent, but exposes: it exposes the conflict between permanence and transformation, between memory and intervention.

Pietro Daresta is an experienced artist based in Italy whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, in France, the United Arab Emirates, and Monaco. His works explore the themes of humanity and its frailties, the passage of time, and the observation of the universe, where everything is destined to change. In Daresta's most recent compositions, he has developed a more personal artisitc approach, moving from the sphere of minimalism and the conceptual towards the informal.
