About this artwork
In this series I explore the mutability and constant evolution of the human being, deconstructing my painting in a similar way as a modern chef deconstructs a traditional dish, transforming its shapes and textures but without losing the original flavors and harmonies.
I do this by combining and transforming the two basic elements of my work, painting and image transfer, and the way they are arranged on the canvas. Transferring a photograph of a… classic realistic painting or drawing on a canvas in black and white tones made with gessos and adding a touch of color at the end.
The finished work is therefore a modified representation in shape, color and texture of the original image.
Raúl Lara is a Spanish artist whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, in the United States, Portugal, France, and the United Kingdom. He describes his art as a search for the representation of who we are in contrast to what others see, in comparison with what we know about ourselves. Lara's recent figurative compositions explore identify and portray the interior self, as well as the self that is shown to others and the world.
