About this artwork
For this wall piece, I fitted irregularly sawn, precisely worked, and flamed oak pieces closely together to form a single block. Here, the materials themselves have an impact, in their compressed appearance and in the energy condensed within them. Düsel is a keen observer of nature. He carefully selects the wood for his work, as each type of wood has a different structure, a different texture, which he engages with, altering through charring or glazing,…
playing with it. He emphasizes that his works are simple and minimalist. I used to make woodcuts. The depth and materiality of the printing blocks fascinated me. The result, a print on paper, lacked sufficient expression for me. So I began creating unique pieces from blocks of wood. This shift brought the material itself into focus and invites the viewer to engage with its sensuality.
