About this artwork
STATICS I – Displaced statics forms the starting point of the STATICS series. The work examines a moment in which the balance of forces in the pictorial space is disrupted.
Vertical structures and spatial densities exist in a fragile relationship to one another. The space appears simultaneously stable and displaced – as if an invisible force were subtly pushing the order of the elements out of alignment.
The work depicts not movement, but the… state immediately preceding it. Tension arises from the balance between weight, density, and emptiness. The image becomes a field in which forces are held without completely dissolving.
STATIK I begins an investigation of spatial tension, which is further intensified in the following works of the series.
