About this artwork
This work forms the concentrated core of the STATIK series.
A central axis concentrates forces that were previously distributed throughout the space.
The reduced, dark surface carries within it a physical tension that is concentrated in the material. The integrated gauze bandage does not act as a foreign element, but rather as a compression – a zone of increased resistance within a fragile equilibrium.
STATICS III describes the moment when pressure… takes shape and develops into a load-bearing structure.
In connection with “STATIK II – Compression Field”, it becomes visible how a diffuse stress field condenses into a clear axis.
Rhea Callen is a contemporary artist whose work deals with structure, density and inner tension.
In her current series UNDER PRESSURE, she examines forces that operate in secret – states between stability and displacement.
Reduced color palette, physical surfaces, and a clear, vertical visual language characterize her works. Material is not merely a support, but an active component of the message.
Her works move between control and dissolution, opening up spaces where tension becomes visible and palpable at the same time.
